It’s day six of our 12 days and WME’s Head of Leadership and OD, Denise Bolger, reminds us of the importance of using the resources we have to deliver excellent services.
Using the clever metaphor, a reference to the film (a true story) Apollo 13, Denise urges us to get creative with the resources we have.
In the film Apollo 13, when the astronauts are en route to the moon, an on-board explosion deprives the spacecraft of most of its oxygen supply and electric power, forcing NASA‘s flight controllers to abort the moon landing, and turning the mission into a struggle to get the three astronauts home safely.
Using a sock, toilet roll and a plastic bag they have to use the limited resources they have to get them home and importantly they have to get creative with those resources.
Denise has turned this feel-good movie into a thought provoking analogy for how the public sector needs to think smarter.
